Texas passed its own mini version of an FCRA statute in 1997 which limits consumer reporting agencies from reporting felonies and misdemeanors older than 7 years. Some consider this law invalid due to the fact it was passed after the federal FCRA, however many consumer reporting agencies follow this law.
At this time, there are no Statewide ban-the-box or fair hiring laws in the State of Texas that supplement the background check provisions of the FCRA
